Cultural differences over New Year in the ethnic hill tribe areas

Ashley, James and Jane are all in Bangkok tonight (31 Dec) celebrating the New Year and then they have a couple of days exploring Kanchanaburi before Ashley heads home to Australia and James and Jane come back to work.

This week has mainly been a winding down week with a little bit of teaching and a little bit of outdoor work mixed in with the New Year preparations and celebrations and farewells to a number of staff members.

Each year for New Year the Foundation puts on a lunch for all local Hill Tribe people to attend and interested government officials etc.  The day before involved decorating the Foundation, making banana leaf wrapping for snacks, etc.  The cooking for the next day (29th) starts at 0400 and a number of volunteers made it to help out from around 0600 onwards.  They helped prepare the meal and serve the guests.  That night was their turn to have a New Year party.

The 30th was mainly a clean up day which all helped out in.
