We arrived back from our trip to Nazca,Ica and Paracas a couple of hours ago and I am so wrecked. The whole weekend was so amazing. We started out with a 13-hour bus trip to Nazca where a bit of confusion ensued and we ended up leaving the bus terminal with the wrong lady. When we realised that we quickly made our way back to the bus terminal and luckily managed to find the lady who would take us to the small airmport to fly over the Nazca lines, no harm done and an important lesson learned. The lines were absolutely amazing, we went up in a plane similar to the cessna in nx which flew us around each of the major pictures. Apparently they arre only 5-15 cm deep which is crazy because they have been around for so long. From there we were taken around a pottery factory and a gold making factory which was really interesting and then caught a bus on to paracas.
In Paracas we managed dinner before collapsing in the hostal upstairs from a very rowdy bar, completely exhausted but I dont think many people got much sleep because of the noise. the attraction of paracas was some massive rocky islands about 15 mins from the mainland. The first was similar to the Nazca lines with a picture of what looked like a candelabra carved into it except it had been carved about 40 cm intothe rock. then there were a couple of islands withlayers of birds absolutely covering them and seals surrounding them which was amazing just for the sheer number of animals inhabiting the area. once we got off the boat panic set i when someone casually asked what time our bus was and instead of checking our itinerary which said we left around 2, we checked the tickets, which said we had 25 minutes to pick up our bags and get to the terminal. Luckily we made the bus and arrived in the early afternoon.
The area we were staying in was actually just out of Ica in this beautiful oasis surrounded by sand dune mountains. We spent the afternoon relaxing by the pool and planning our nights entertainment. Sunday has to be the most awesome of the items planned on our itinerary, we started out dune buggying, then moved onto dune surfing which was amazing fun although i never managed to properly surf over the dunes instead I used my board like a boogy board whcih went faster than surfing anyway. From there we had a few hours by the pool and then went on a pisco tasting tour. The first place we were shown the traditional process of making pisco then given a range of different types to try along with some jams and chocolate they make in the area. The second place was more of a drink as much as you want affair/ when our guide saw we had an empty cup she would take it away and refill it. Luckily when the time came to collect the tickets I was in charge and managed to collect all our tickets with no hitches. However the 16 hour bus trip home was not fun due to the windiness of the roads and the fact we got on the bus too late to get any dinner.
Until next time!
