Clinic works begins for Uni students in Cambodia

Our placement in Cambodia is going really well. We are staying at such a lovely place! The owner and his family are so friendly and there are lots of other volunteers here. We are up at 6:30 each morning and get on the bus at 7:45 for a 9am start at the clinic. The Clinic is about a 40min drive away, but the drive is so beautiful through the countryside. The Military Handicap Centre is brand new and parts of it are still under construction. The opening ceremony for the centre is in late July and we have been asked to stay longer if we can so that we can meet the Prime Minister who will be attending.

We have divided our team into 3 groups. One group has set up a physiotherapy clinic in which general exercise classes will be run as well as one on one consultations. Another group uses the vans to drive around to the houses within the centre to assess the housing situation, and the needs of the family living there. Depending on their mobility, these people are either treated within the home or they are referred to the clinic.

The third group work at the school to perform healthcare education to the children in the morning and the soldiers and their wives in the afternoon. We rotate through each of these positions so that we can have a go at everything. Last weekend we went to Angkor Wat and some of the other temples which was absolutely amazing, followed by a Mexican and Margaritas night with lots of dancing! This weekend some of us are going to Phenom Phen and the rest are off to see the floating villages. We cant believe how quickly our time is going!

Speak to you soon,

Ally
