Exploring the beautiful city of Udaipur
COUNTRY: India
PROGRAM: GapBreak
PROJECT: Teaching
WRITTEN BY: Sarah Raine & Antips in India
The last 2 weeks we have spent in Udaipur. With 3 days off school due to public holidays so we decided to do some touristy things in our home city.
We woke up early one morning and went on a hike to the top of the Fatehpura Temple. It was a very steep climb but only took about 15 minutes to get up, with the beautiful sunrise across the lake worth the effort. We even met a 75 year old women who walks up everyday to go worship, accompanied by some tiny piglets probably fairly newly born.
At the orphanage we have just started a sports competition where we have split into four teams red, pink, green and blue and play a series of sports with the kids. So far we have played handball and Volleyball, with the blue team winning both of these. We are now onto the very serious much loved sport of the boys cricket which we are only 1 game into. The competition has really helped us to bond more with the older boys also and been a lot of fun.
Over the weekend we went on a cable car that takes you up behind the city palace and has a great view over the whole city below. Following that we went for high tea at Fateh Prakesh Hotel which is a 5 star hotel inside the city palace complex. It was lovely, we dined on finger sandwiches and "scones" in a beautiful room lines with gold paintings and extravagant glass lights.
Finally, we set out for a picnic overlooking the lake for Gauravs birthday. With the sunset glimmer and birthday cake was a lovely way to end the weekend.
Thanks
Sarah
