"Tis The Leech Season" (Nepal in rhyming couplets)

COUNTRY: Nepal
PROGRAM: GapBreak
PROJECT: Teaching
WRITTEN BY: Kasia Vickery

I cant believe its been two weeks since we last checked in,

so much has happened I don't know where to begin,

our school vacation week begun with a Kathmandu western comfort binge,

the amount of snickers bars consumed by Phoebe would make you cringe,

After a week of daily daal bhat its nice to have some white bread and jam,

you should have seen Morgan's face when he found the nutella and spam,

after much indulging we deserved a rest,

we thought some shopping and a blind masseuse would treat us the best,

we gave "healing hands" a visit who provide work for the blind and the poor,

a relaxing hour that left us quite sore,

after more pizza and pancakes Meg said "thats enough!",

so we went in search of something more tough,

Chitwan National Park would be our next destination.

I wish someone had warned us about Nepal's unpredictable precipitation,

waddling through puddles we took our 6am bus ride,

what to occupy ourselves with for seven hours was hard to decide,

arrived in the jungle - bloody oath its humid,

the smell of elephant poo is nothing less than putrid,

jungle safari by foot and we're soaked in sweat,

two unexpected rhinos caused quite a threat,

seeing monkeys, baby elephants, spotted deer and wild boar only took us a while,

nothing beat the giant rock - oh wait! thats a crocodile,

early morning canoe Abby asks "are we sinking or not?"

stopped for some bird watching but its too bloody hot!

the highlight was definitely a safari on an elephants back,

almost as uncomfortable as the bus ride home shared awkwardly with a german tourist and his rucksack,

back to our home in the hills - bugs in our hair and covered in mud,

we collapse on our wooden beds with a smile and a THUD.
