Madame Butterfly the eldest female giraffe

COUNTRY: South Africa
PROGRAM: GapBreak
PROJECT: Wildlife Conservation & Black Leopard Research
WRITTEN BY: Heather Gelliot and Olivia Pointon

Our last two weeks went by so fast! We went to Mogalakwena Reserve to help out with their leopard research program. There, we were privileged to join in and track giraffe. After a few hot minutes in the African sun we found Madame Butterfly (the eldest female), Emily, and Flower munching on the trees. We stayed with them for about an hour and two baby giraffe slowly joined them, they were so tiny!

Back at Thaba Tholo, we did our last two spoor walks and found leopard spoor! And were able to get a casting of Diamond Girl’s foot print, which was so big!
On our last night we had a braai (South African BBQ) by the dam and ate mystery meat. This was actually quite delicious!

We have had a wonderful experience in South Africa! And can’t wait to go back! Thank you!
