First Black Leopard volunteers report on their progress

COUNTRY: South Africa
PROGRAM: GapBreak
PROJECT: Wildlife Conservation & Black Leopard Research
WRITTEN BY: Heather Gelliot and Olivia Pointon

We have been at Thaba Tholo Reserve, South Africa, for 2 weeks now. We have learnt and done so much! From tracking spoor, setting & sorting camera traps, spot-light searching for leopards, making casts of spoor, learning about safe traps, using the donkey, and general camp life.

We were also blessed to feed the nyala some grass pellets and fruit.

We visited the local school and taught the African kids some reading and computer skills. Thanks to all who donated, we will be spending the money on milly maize and soccer balls.
So far we have seen, giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, nyala, impala, kudo, klipspiringer, reebock, genet, bush babies and babbons. Still keeping our eyes open for leopards!
