CGGS Update # 2 From Peru
Update # 2 from the Las Chullpas Chickas (CGGS) in Peru! Dear Parents and Friends
We know it has been a while, but we have been up to a lot since we last posted. We engaged in epic shopping in Cuzco, fabulous presents guaranteed, and took a tour around the significant Inca ruins in the area, including the famous Sacsaywaman.
After 3 relaxing days in Cuzco all 18 of us boarded a bus and headed off to our community project, in the small town of Huatata. We assisted over the next 4 days in building a kitchen for their local school, did some local house visits and spent some quality time with the children of the area. Perhaps the most influential part of our stay was visiting a few of these local childrens homes, and seeing first hand the harsh reality of their living conditions. The highlight of our time was playing with these kids, as it brought us joy seeing how much fun we could bring to them. We slept in a massive room, picture a 15 girl slumber party !! We have all tried the local delicacy of guinea pig, donated to us by the people of the villiage to show their gratitude. We are now resting before heading off on our trek on Thursday.
Everyone is now enjoying hot showers, clean beds and some time to rejuvenate.
Although everyones nails are dirty, hair greasy and muscles sore from the physical labour, we are all having a great time on the trip so far, and finding it hard to believe a week has gone by. Hope all is well,
Lots of love,
The Las Chullpas Chickas
