World Peace Day - Kenya

“Over the last 10 years, Peace Day has been proved as an opportunity for life-saving activities and action by individuals worldwide. For Peace Day 21 September 2012, Peace One Day is calling for and working towards a day of ceasefire and non-violence ¬- the Global Truce 2012 campaign. We hope that this will be the largest global reduction of violence ever recorded on one day – and the largest ever gathering of individuals in the name of peace.” (Peace One Day)

For the past few years, we have marked World Peace Day throughout Camps International and this year is no exception…a big thanks to our Camp Kenya Gap Crew for making this mark for all of us…

Here in Muhaka, Kenya, we celebrated World Peace Day by a day filled with fun activities for both gappers and the local community. We kicked off our day with a game of football, Gappers vs Team Muhaka, in which Muhaka pulled out a win, the result being 7-4. During the football match we also had a netball match for the girls, where we pulled off a stunning result of 15-11.

We also put some games together for the younger generation which included egg and spoon races, a balloon activity (where a balloon is attached to their ankle and the aim is to pop other peoples balloons but keeping yours protected).

Exactly at 12:00 we held hands in a circle for peace prayer and a minute of silence.

In the afternoon we continued the games with volleyball including a team made up of our camp staff, gappers and the local community.

We all had an amazing experience working peacefully with the community.
