The past month has been amazing although like all good things it must come to an end. Today we begin packing up our stuff as four of us fly to Male early tomorrow morning to spend time in Bandos Island Resort before going our separate ways. The last week of our trip was incredible, last weekend I was under the impression we were travelling to Maradhoo to pickup rubbish and meet some local parents, however this was just a big cover for the surprise dinner everyone gave me for my birthday! We had dinner at the resort Equator Village in Gan and had a fun night playing ping pong, eating chocolate cake and talking about the past month. It was such a great night, I am so grateful to everyone that helped make it happen!
On Sunday we went to hospital as usual, each starting at a new ward for our last week. I was in OT (theatre) where I saw circumcisions and a Caesarian section, Sarah was in the labour ward which only had a few patients this week, Anne was in emergency and Jannice was in ICU which unfortunately was fumigated halfway through the week and closed as there was no patients. That night we had another dinner for my birthday with Suna, Misbah and Brenda. The dinner table was decorated with fresh flowers and we were served some of my favourite foods!
On Monday we went snorkelling and night fishing with the excursion team where Jannice managed to catch an eel and Suna and I both caught big snapper. On Tuesday we gave certificates and presents to everyone who had participated in swimming and guitar lessons and had a little party. Wednesday afternoon
All in all this month has been unforgettable. We have experienced so many incredible things and made friendships that will last a lifetime, even after we travel back home. We can't thank our Maldivian family enough for welcoming us into this community and making this the trip of a lifetime.
