Somerville House Team B, Nepal

Wow! It's going to be tough to articulate how incredibly interesting, exciting and humbling the last few days have been, but I will try to give you all some idea...

We spent last Monday & Tuesday in Kathmandu, checking out the delicious smells & tastes of the city, and scouting around the best shopping destinations. After a rather eventful bus trip (no road rules or sings here in Nepal!), we arrived in Pokhara on Tuesday afternoon and spent Wednesday morning sightseeing and shopping. We then transferre to our project, where we were met by the young monks of the monastic school where we stayed until this morning. We spent our time working hard on the construction of the school's second floor (shifting almost 2 tonnes of bricks via a human chain) and teaching the boys (aged 4-17) about Australia, as well as getting utterly smashed in multpile games of Aus vs. Nepal football. It was an incredibly humbling and rewarding experience to partake in their rigid, but simple, way of life. We even managed to teach them to say 'hello', 'goodbye' & 'thankyou' in Japanese, French and Greek! Plus they were all very cheeky!

We're now back in Pokhara for the afternoon and tomorrow, preparing to depart for our 9 day trek on Tuesday. The group is (still!) getting along really well, and we're even starting to pick up each other's mannerisms! The people here are so lovely and accommodating, and as keen to say "G'day, mate" as we are to say "Namaste"!

Food has been utterly delicious, and we've all been eating heaps. Missing Australia, but looking forward to the many adventures still to come...
